p1_003.gif

From Walt Stephens of the Goleta Club: If you ever wanted to go see the Rose Parade Floats up close, Don’t miss the bus. Get on the fun bus to decorate the Rotary Rose Parade Float in Pasadena the time is short. We now have 35 Rotarians and guests from our group signed up for the trip on December 29th. The work you do on the float will be televised around the world and seen by millions of people. What a great way to represent Rotary’s literacy program. We want 45 Rotarians and gueststo help put the finishing touches on our Rotary float. This a great family event for children 16 years and older.

We leave from the parking lot at Fess Parkers at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 29. We will stop in Carpinteria and Ventura on our way down to Pasadena. Our work shift will be from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. We will return by 1 a.m. on December 30th. Please dress warm in work clothing.

The cost for the trip is $35 and includes, cheese, and fruit, sandwiches, salad, chips, beer, wine, soda, water and coffee. Bus fare and driver tip is also included.

Kids Helping Kids

I first heard of Kids Helping Kids last week from a teacher at San Marcos High School. Later that night, at a Chamber Mixer, I was given the spiel by two students actively involved in the program. What started out as a dinner at a downtown restaurant with a portion of the night’s proceeds going to the Unity Shoppe has blossomed into a fun competition where each year’s AP Economics class tries to out do the previous year. In the end, the Unity Shoppe gains a sizeable donation, with this year’s goal being $100k.

All of the kids’ efforts culminate in a single gala dinner complete with live and silent auctions, a performance by a recording artist, and a 3 course meal. You can help by attending the event (tickets are just $65), sponsoring a table, bidding on items, or donating items to be bid on. All donations are 100% tax deductible.

The event takes place on December 11th at the Fess Parker Doubletree Resort. Doors open at 5:45 and dinner starts at 6:15.
