Spread the Word to Web Developers

If we can get enough Web developers interested, we’d like to sponsor a 24-hour Web site design project to help nonprofits establish their Web sites.

The idea: Teams of Web developers, designers and database experts work for 24 hours to create or overhaul a local nonprofit’s Website – for free.

For nonprofits: Nonprofits would apply to get the free help. They would have to provide guidance on the site’s construction: purpose, content, images, etc. A representative from the nonprofit would be on hand for the 24-hour blitz, but the Web teams would not know which site they’re working on until the day of the event.

For developers: All the developers would spend a day at a local venue with the needed equipment and a representative from the nonprofit. They’d have meals provided for them. In addition to free food and good karma, the developers would be able to add the nonprofit’s Website to their portfolio and possibly benefit from publicity that the event would get.

This idea is modeled on the F1 Overnight Website Challenge planned for Minneapolis .

** Right now, we’re gauging the interest of the community. If you know someone who would be interested in participating as a developer or designer, please encourage them to email and let us know!
