Come Plant with Us at Arroyo Hondo Preserve

On Sunday, March 2, we’ll be kicking off a month packed with service activities. Because March includes Rotaract International’s 40th anniversary, we want to do at least 40 hours of community service for each year our club has existed — about 2 years means 80 hours. But I say, let’s shoot for 100. That’s all together, not per person.

Every person who comes to Arroyo Hondo Preserve this Sunday, from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. can help us get 3.5 hours closer to our goal. Just five people would start us off with 17.5 hours! We’ll be working above Greg’s Grove, weeding and adding some mulch to recently planted greenery. The preserve is beautiful this time of year. Come see hummingbird sage, nightshade and bitter gooseberry in bloom.

The preserve is rarely open to the public, so it’s a great chance to see how incredible it is and to help maintain a gorgeous part of our coast. After we’re done working, you’re welcome to bring a picnic lunch and stick around and then take a hike (optional).

We’ll meet in front of Mojo Coffee in North Goleta at 8:30 a.m. sharp. To find Mojo, take Highway 101 north from Santa Barbara. Exit Storke/Glen Annie and turn left. Take a right on Hollister. Take a left into the Rite Aid/Albertsons road (past the traffic light that goes to the movie theater). Mojo is between Rite Aid and Albertsons on your right.

Please email sb_rotaract@yahoo.com so we can know how many people to expect. Also, please include a phone number. Wear sturdy shoes or boots, long sleeves, pants and a hat. If yo have your own work gloves, it’s best to bring them. You may want sunscreen and water. They’ll provide tools and cookies.
