Sign up for Fiesta!

Ryan and Laura have been working hard at organizing our booth for the upcoming Fiesta festival. I know many of you already signed up shifts at the last meeting but for those who haven’t, please check out the cool online signup form that Ryan made for us! From there, you can see which shifts still need help and you can participate in just minutes. Please volunteer at least one shift. It’d really help us out. And if you think you might be bored, find a friend or Rotarian and ask them to work wth you. Time really flies when you are making new friends.

Thanks!

Rotobots – TRANSFORM!

The movie night is Tuesday, June 30th at the Arlington Theatre.  The movie starts at 7:30p , so we’ll meet at the main front
entrance of the Arlington at 7:00p.  The movie runs 2  1/2 hours (and probably another 10-15 minutes of previews.)   So, we’re probably looking at an end time of around 10:15-10:30.  Please email michelle [at] sbrotaract [dot] com with your intent to attend.

Travel to Bangladesh for Nearly Free

Rotary_logo_2010The same program that took Dana and Liz to Thailand is accepting applications for a trip to Bangladesh‘s District 3280 in 2010.

Through the Group Study Exchange (AKA GSE), the Rotary Foundation pays for a team of young professionals between the ages of 25 and 40 to travel to a foreign country.  The program develops professional and leadership skills while promoting international understanding. Team members usually stay in Rotarians’ homes, experiencing  local culture.

You can view the team member brochure here. (PDF) The application is here. (Doc)

Applications due August 9. The trip is January 11 – February 8, 2010.

Today’s Quote: Another Reason Rotaract Rocks

Walk with the dreamers, the believers, the courageous, the cheerful, the planners, the doers, the successful people with their heads in the clouds and their feet on the ground. Let their spirit ignite a fire within you, to leave this world better than when you found it.

 – Wilfred Peterson

If you’re in Rotaract, you’re already doing this. Good job.

Night Hike June 4 in Romero Canyon

With the full moon on Friday, Thursday is a great time to go for a night hike. It’s really more of an evening hike, but that doesn’t sound like quite as much fun, does it?

Please meet at Montecito’s Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf on Coast Village Road at 6:30 p.m. if you’d like to join the hike.

Bring a flashlight or headlamp, warm clothes and water. Sensible shoes are highly encouraged.

Romero Canyon offers amazing views of the city and ocean below, and since we’ll still have daylight we can enjoy the late wildflowers and greenery. The group will likely walk for about two and a half hours with photo and water breaks as needed.

June 2 Meeting

Our first June meeting will take place tomorrow (6/2) at Sharkeez in the back patio at 6:30 PM. Show up  and learn about our recent volunteer projects, trip to San Diego, and upcoming opportunities such as Vicky’s 3000 and a fun night hike this week.
