Trash and Graffiti Eradication

Didn’t get your fill of Rotarians at Work Day last weekend? Well don’t fret Rotaractor! The Rotary Club of Santa Barbara (that’s the one that meets downtown at Fess Parker’s), decided to shift their work day to this Saturday, May 7th. They are cleaning up trash and graffiti starting at 8:30 AM. They’ll have you out by noon so you can still enjoy your day. Please contact Courtlin for details.

It’s not too late to sign up for Fiesta Booth shifts either—you can sign up for multiple shifts here.

We will be decorating the Rotary Fiesta Float with flowers this Thursday, August 5th at the Carriage House Museum, located at 129 Castillo Street (located at the same parking lot as the baseball field close to Santa Barbara City College). Please be there by 6:30 pm and will go till 9:00 pm. Afterwards we will walk to Jack’s house (only three blocks away) for some ROOT BEER FLOATS! Volunteers Needed for Children’s Choir Show

The Santa Barbara Sunrise Rotary club is presenting the Ciudad de los Ninos Orphanage Choir next Friday at 7:00 PM. The even takes place at the Marjorie Luke Theatre and Rotaract volunteers are needed to act as ushers. They request that we wear black pants and white shirts and show up half an hour prior (6:30). If you are able to attend, please email stephanie@sbrotaract.com. Come volunteer and enjoy what promises to be a great show.

May Day Unity Shoppe Volunteers Needed!

Unity Shoppe is the recipient of the KCOY Spring Food Drive now in full swing through May 7th!

May 1st is a designated Super Saturday, when KCOY film crews will visit the grocery stores where volunteers are stationed handing out “Unity shopping lists” to encourage the public to purchase a few extra items to donate for their low-income neighbors.

Unity Shoppe needs some volunteers. Would you like to participate? They’re looking for a few helpful hands at each of 6 local stores. Let them know your availability for a 2-hr shift sometime between 10am and 3pm on May 1st and they’ll follow-up your reply with store location.

A friendly reminder that it’s not too late to sign up for a volunteer day in exchange for a day pass to the Happiest Place on Earth – Disneyland! You can pick any event, but a bunch of Rotaractors are planning on working with Goleta Valley Beautiful this Saturday, Jan. 16 at 1PM.

You can sign up at this link. Just search by zipcode: 93117 and it should be the first result. Once you sign up and send a message to Ken Knight, you’ll get back an automated response. Tell Ken what event you want to work at and he’ll confirm then you can confirm with the Disney site.

Fonkoze Dinner

We would love to have you join us September 13th at a Haitian Night celebration that will be raising funds to support Fonkoze of Santa Barbara! Fonkoze provides micro-loans and banking services for a rural community in Haiti. The first shift is from 1-2:30pm helping to set up for the event, and volunteers from 5-8:45pm will help serve dinner and assist in take down. Those at the later shift will be able to have some of the dinner and watch the Fonkoze presentation. Event is in the Parish Hall at Trinity Episcopal Church. Helping Is Not a Sole Activity

We had an amazing, nay spectacular, turnout for our shoe-packing volunteer day last Saturday. We helped the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise repack hundred’s of pairs of shoes so they could be easily transported down to Mexico where they will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to everyone who showed up and sweated it out.

Rotaract Cleans Up

Six Rotaractors and 2 guests met at Ellwood Beach on Saturday and cleaned up the bluffs and sand. We received words of gratitude from no less than three people. We saw mountain bikers, joggers, dog-walkers, even a man about to launch an inflatable raft so he could fish. The area definitely is widely used so I know we made a positive impact by being there.
