Watch The Final Inch

One Photo from Images of India

Did you know that polio, a crippling disease, could be eradicated in as little as two years from now? Since 1985, polio went from being present in 125 countries to only 4. Come learn about how it was done and how people are trying to wipe it out completely.

On April 22, you can:

  • Watch a special screening of “The Final Inch,” a documentary about the successes and challenges of eradicating polio worldwide.
  • View Images of India, photos by Joe Johnston.
  • Listen to a polio survivor tell his story.
  • Listen to first-hand experiences of immunizing children in India.
  • Pick up a treat at the bake sale.

The event is at Santa Barbara City College in the BC Forum and begins at 6 p.m. Parking will be free if you enter at the West Campus kiosk.

VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED: Contact ana@sbrotaract.com to sign up.

Sign up for Fiesta!

Ryan and Laura have been working hard at organizing our booth for the upcoming Fiesta festival. I know many of you already signed up shifts at the last meeting but for those who haven’t, please check out the cool online signup form that Ryan made for us! From there, you can see which shifts still need help and you can participate in just minutes. Please volunteer at least one shift. It’d really help us out. And if you think you might be bored, find a friend or Rotarian and ask them to work wth you. Time really flies when you are making new friends.

Thanks!

Meeting at Braille Institute on Tuesday, May 19

Don’t miss a special Rotaract meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the upstairs conference room of the Braille Institute at 2031 De La Vina Street (map).

Debbie Cox Bultan of the Coastal Housing Coalition will speak about what it takes in this town to keep a roof over your head. We’ll also discuss upcoming events, socials and a pretty fantastic party at the SB Zoo.
After the meeting we’ll head across the street to Taffy’s for our pizza fundraiser. Print out the flyer here and bring it with you. A percentage of all purchases made with this flyer will benefit polio eradication. Polio remains in only 4 countries in the world, thanks to the efforts of Rotary International. This year, Bill Gates has challenged Rotary, offering $250 million if Rotary can match it. We want to do our small part.
You can leave your car parked in the Braille Institute lot until 9:30 pm.

The Pizza Project for Rwanda

California Pizza Kitchen calls it Philanthopizza. We call it helping orphans in Rwanda. The Rotaract Club of Santa Barbara wants to help you, too. On November 18, we want to save you the worry of wondering “What will I eat for lunch?” or “What will I eat for dinner?” On November 18, you should print this flyer [MS-Word] and take it with you to California Pizza Kitchen at 719 Paseo Nuevo (on Chapala). In return, CPK will give Rotaract 20% of your check, which we’ll use on our Rwanda project.

Not in the mood for a sit-down meal? The offer also applies to take-out. You can order in advance at (805) 962-4648. Here’s the menu. Just be sure you present the flyer. The deal is good from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

We’ll try to keep our usual meeting short that night so that we can head to CPK together afterward for dinner.
