Our friends at Catalyst For Thought have graciously offered three complimentary tickets to their March 1st SYNC event. The guest speaker will be entrepreneur, VC, and CEO Kevin O’Connor who co-founded DoubleClick in 1995. Please contact officers [at] sbrotaract [dot] com if you are interested. You must be a member of Rotaract to take advantage of this offer.

There will be $1,000 available for each of the two Rotaractors chosen. The estimated cost for the whole trip would be $1500-2000 so this would cover at least half of that. You can also certainly get creative to save on lodging, which is the biggest cost by far.

Having attended two conventions in the past, I highly recommend it. You don’t fully understand Rotary until you attend these historic events.

1. Submit your nomination between the dates of August 30, 2010 to September 7, 2010, no late entries will be excepted.

3. Nominees should be 18 years of age by November 1, 2010 and must agree to go to New York, NY from November 5 through November 7, Dates are subject to change, give or take a day depending on travel arrangements and availability of airfare, room and board.
4. District 5240 is seeking home hosts from Rotarians in the New York, vicinity. If home hosts are not secured hotel accommodations will be provided. Nominees must agree to the housing or hotel arrangements that we arrange for them. Airfare and travel are being arranged by the district and no changes or substitutions can be made. A small stipend will be made available for meals & travel expenses
5. District 5240 has already retained tickets to the event. The names of the winners will need to have final approval by September 10, 2010 to make sure they meet all requirements or an alternate will be chosen.
6. Security is heightened at the United Nations and we will need to submit the attendees name for security clearance no later than September 17, 2010.
7. We suggest you contact the nominee and work with them on the nomination process to assure that they understand what is expected of them.
8. Airline tickets will be purchased on or before September 15, 2010. Attendees will be joining Donna Prenta, District Interact Chair on the trip. Donna is making all travel arrangements.

10. The Interact and Rotaract winners will be expected to make a minimum of four speeches to Rotary Clubs during their club meetings regarding their experience at RI UN Day.

I’m part of a team of graduate students at Northwestern University (in Evanston, IL) who are working on a project for Rotary International. We are gathering input from Rotaract members from the US and Canada. We are gathering feedback from a handful of clubs and are hoping yours will participate.

The goal of the survey is to better understand Rotaractors’ attitudes toward Rotary as we tackle a project given to us by Rotary International’s general secretary, Ed Futa. Did you know that polio, a crippling disease, could be eradicated in as little as two years from now? Since 1985, polio went from being present in 125 countries to only 4. Come learn about how it was done and how people are trying to wipe it out completely.

On April 22, you can:

• Watch a special screening of “The Final Inch,” a documentary about the successes and challenges of eradicating polio worldwide.
• View Images of India, photos by Joe Johnston.
• Listen to a polio survivor tell his story.
• Listen to first-hand experiences of immunizing children in India.
• Pick up a treat at the bake sale.

The event is at Santa Barbara City College in the BC Forum and begins at 6 p.m. Parking will be free if you enter at the West Campus kiosk.
